One of the most popular search engine optimization (SEO) applications for WordPress users has arrived in the Shopify ecosystem. This week, Yoast SEO officially launched on the Shopify App Store .
Shopify merchants can now incorporate the SEO tool into their online stores to make their content and products more easily discoverable in organic search engine results.
“Our mission is SEO for everyone. We want everyone to have a fair chance in the search engines. Shopify is a large eCommerce platform and it’s growing fast. Extending our services to Shopify will help us to get closer to our mission,” says Yoast Founder and Chief Product Officer Joost de Valk .
After a 14-day free trial, Yoast SEO is available to Shopify merchants at a cost of $29 per month. This pricing differs from the WordPress integration, which operates on a freemium model.
Traditionally, Yoast has only made its SEO tool available on open source platforms. With the launch of Yoast SEO on Shopify, the company is making its first foray into proprietary software.
“Shopify is closed source. We had a lot of conversations about that because at Yoast we’re open source fanboys and girls,” says de Valk. “At the same time, making the web better is also something very dear to our heart. And we think that Shopify is making the web better. We strongly believe in Shopify’s mission to bring small businesses online.”
Yoast SEO’s debut on the Shopify App Store is the latest instance in a growing trend of search engines and SEO tools seeking to improve their offerings for eCommerce merchants. Last year, Google announced its expanded Shopify integration , as well as a host of other eCommerce features.
As more and more merchants come online, standing out in a crowded field becomes increasingly important. Online stores are realizing the value of improving their search performance and adopting tools like Yoast SEO to become more easily discoverable on search engines like Google and Bing.
