At the 2022 Codal Summit, key team members from our Chicago, Lincoln, and Ahmedabad offices spent five days in Amsterdam discussing the future direction of the company, as well as how far we’ve come in the past thirteen years.

This was an opportunity for Codal’s Product Design, Development, and QA teams to address which areas are working well and which areas require more attention. After connecting almost completely remotely over the past few years due to the pandemic, everyone was super excited to meet in person and get to work.

Our goals were to create a shared vision about the future direction of Codal, discover imperatives for change, identify course correction methods, establish principles to guide product development, and foster new or improved relationships with team members which can facilitate change and future action.

Breakout Sessions

Through presentations and engaging breakout sessions, we put our heads together on current business problems, came up with solutions, and generated additional questions or areas for improvement to focus on moving forward. And when we weren't busy with all that, we spent our free time riding bikes through the beautiful streets of Amsterdam, checking out museums, and eating at delicious restaurants.

Codal’s COO, Matthew Gierut, kicked things off by sharing a brief history of the company, from its humble beginnings in Downers Grove, IL, to its current presence in the US, UK, and India.

Today, Codal has over 200 employees across the globe and clients in over 12 industries—including retail, healthcare, finance, agriculture, and food and beverage. We also have partnerships with industry leaders that share our passion for helping organizations thrive in the digital age, such as BigCommerce, Shopify, Salesforce, Contenful, Klaviyo, Salsify, and many others.

After touching on Codal’s massive business growth since 2009, the team moved on to discuss goals for the future—specifically for 2022, 2023, and 2024.

What are the biggest challenges to our success right now? What qualities are we looking for in prospective employees? Which countries will be next as part of Codal's expansion plan? Which projects have been our most successful and why? These are just a few of the questions we tackled during the Summit to identify important strengths and weaknesses within the organization.

With representatives from each department, we established short- and long-term goals for Design, Engineering, Product Management, QA, and HR. And upon leaving the summit, each team had a list of action items to focus on when they returned home. Whether it relates to client communication, cross-org collaboration, project discovery, product delivery, resource management, or professional development, our leadership team put together a list of initiatives that will help Codal reach new heights over the next several years.

We’re currently working through these initiatives to create better outcomes for our clients, partners, and employees. And we can’t wait to share more awesome work with you soon!
