BigCommerce, a leading provider of cloud-based eCommerce software, launched its new B2B Edition this week. The solution, which offers extensive functionality for larger merchants, is one of the most comprehensive B2B-specific platform offerings ever released.

“We are advancing B2B digital experiences through enterprise functionality, platform openness, and flexibility to enable a modernized eCommerce experience for B2B merchants and their customers,” says MaryAnn Bekkedahl, senior vice president of business development. “B2B Edition gives sellers a distinct advantage of a B2C-like shopping experience that helps businesses sell faster, convert at a higher rate, and create repeat purchasing and loyalty.”

B2B Edition combines BigCommerce’s existing Enterprise instance with functionality from technology partner BundleB2B. It also includes six front-end themes optimized for B2B merchants. B2B Edition adds an extensive set of new features to BigCommerce’s already impressive functionality, including:

  • Corporate account management;
  • Restricted log-ins;
  • Price lists;
  • Buy again options;
  • Easy quote creation.

B2B Edition also includes sales representative masquerading, which allows salespeople to log in to their eCommerce sites on behalf of customers to complete orders, update shopping carts, and more. The platform’s new invoice portal makes it easy for customers to manage and pay invoices with a variety of payment options, including credit cards, ACH, and more. Merchants can control payment method visibility by selecting which payment options are available to specific customers.

The B2B eCommerce revolution is coming

According to Forrester, B2B eCommerce transactions will reach $1.8 trillion by 2023. As BigCommerce points out, that would account for 17% of total B2B sales in the US. B2B Edition’s launch comes at a time when B2B merchants are looking to migrate their sales operations online—and customers are seeking more B2C-like experiences when purchasing from merchants. While BigCommerce Enterprise already offered a pretty impressive feature set for B2B merchants, B2B Edition expands on this functionality, helping merchants deliver superior customer experiences and streamline their sales operations.

What this means for B2B eCommerce merchants

BigCommerce is seeking to capitalize on the growing market for customer-focused B2B eCommerce solutions with its own expanded offering. With its significant set of pre-installed features, B2B Edition can help merchants get online quickly and start selling faster. From there, they can create more streamlined paths to purchase and deliver the modern, B2C-influenced experiences customers crave. B2B Edition is perfect for mid-market companies, small businesses with complex sales cycles, and enterprises with basic product offerings.

Currently, B2B Edition is only available to new merchants that do not currently operate on the BigCommerce platform. If your business is considering making the jump to online commerce, B2B Edition is worth investigating. You would be hard-pressed to find a more powerful B2B eCommerce solution in a single package.
